As we follow the lives of the three protagonists, their separate stories are woven together into a larger tale where the boundaries between reality and fiction blur. A dark maze unfolds as they try to find their way out. But will they?

Anna is a Croatian-Swiss, with a passion for Irish Dancing and playing the harp. Finishing her degree in religious and political science last year, she's no stranger to the stage either, and has been lucky to perform in the Bern City Theatre twice. Having to refrain from physical activities due to a broken wrist, she's excited to be in the midst of the action again. Jessica in A Maze is her second role with Upstage.
Anke has been acting on stage since 5th grade and has had her UpStage debut in 2019 with "Pippin". Next to pursuing this passion, she studies law and travels the world.
Angela, Hermione, Queen
Myriam grew up in a Swiss-German family near Vevey. She studied French literature in Lausanne. She performed with several French-speaking amateur theatre groups until her early twenties. Since her move to Bern in 2016, to get closer to her work at the federal administration, Myriam has been performing in Swiss German in the Zytglogge-Theater and has been a regular cast or crew member in Upstage productions.
Marc has considerable experience with English-speaking theatre in Switzerland. With the
Zurich Comedy Club (now ZEST) he performed in An Ideal Husband, Calendar Girls and Death of a Salesman. Marc was a founding member of The
Improvables English-speaking improv group. He has also taught Drama at secondary school
and worked with youth theatre groups in Biel/Bienne. Marc is a German citizen who grew
up in the United Kingdom and has been in Switzerland for almost twenty years.
Tabea's acting experiences are all bound to her primary and secondary school time where she fell in love with acting. Since then she has had a longing to be back on stage once again. This soon-to-be Social worker took the opportunity to be in this production with great joy. Besides Theater she loves being outdoors, baking, playing the guitar, and celebrating the little things in life.
Jonathan has been around the English-speaking theatre scene be it on or offstage in Berne for over six years. After having written and directed his first play back in March 2020, he’s looking forward to being back on stage for the first time in what seems like forever.
Julien has had a late start on stage, making his public theatre debut in November of last year as Pippin in the Upstage production of the musical „Pippin“. He has since found his passion for acting, with „A maze“ being his third role in Berne. If he‘s not learning lines he loves to draw, paint, bake, cook, read, and travel around the world. Working in marketing for the Swiss Post he makes sure that the Swiss get back to writing personal letters and postcards.
Tom, Alexander, Gareth
Joseph moved to Switzerland 6 years ago. Always fascinated by performing arts, he decided to give it a try and auditioned for a role in A Maze. In his free time, Joseph likes football (both on the pitch and on the screen), music, and movies.
Director, Set Design
Max Protzen is thrilled to be making his Swiss directorial debut with Upstage’s A Maze. He is originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has been been a theatre artist for 19 years. During those years, he has taken on many positions: Actor, Designer, Director, Administrator. He would like to thank the stunning cast for A Maze, for your patience and dedication.
Grace works as an Optical Engineer and Project Manager by day and in a theatre designing lighting by night. She first came to work backstage at the University of Bath in 2007 and since then has work on a variety of theatre, dance and music productions. Grace’s main area of interest is lighting design but she has also been a Stage Manager, Production Manager and Set Designer.
Anza Keller was drawn into the artistic world by the promise of endless creative possibilities. She has worked in theatre as well as film and television, and her love of the latter has garnered her work on the sets of SHOWTIME’s Ray Donovan, as well as John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum. She has worked as an actor, writer, and costume designer. Keller believes that the secrets to who a person is can be found in the very fabric of what they wear.

Julien is delighted to be running the marketing campaign for "A Maze". Applying knowledge from his degree and his job in marketing, he is making sure that you will know about the play and want to come to see the show.
Located in beautiful Berne, Switzerland, Upstage staged their first production in 1982. Since then our lively theatre group has staged over 75 productions and has become a permanent part of the Bernese theatre scene. Each year we put on an autumn and a spring production at the Theater am Käfigturm. Throughout the year we hold regular play readings and workshops.
